What is FERPA?

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. Students have specific, protected rights regarding the release of such records and FERPA requires that institutions adhere strictly to these guidelines. Your request will be reviewed to insure that it is FERPA compliant.

Ethnicity

Ethnicity is provided only if legitimately required for the purposes of reviewing or quantifying data.

Examples of legitimate uses of ethnic data include requests of data for grants that specify provision of ethnicity in application materials or results; data for senate and other academic unit committee or employment assignments that contain a charge to review ethnicity in some fashion; ongoing duties of student affairs offices or officers whose units are established specifically to support one or more ethnic populations.
